Tamales are a favorite quick breakfast dish in Mexico, where you can see street vendors serving them from huge, steaming, covered pots (tamaleras). Often the tamal is placed inside a bread roll to form a torta de tamal, which is substantial enough to keep the breakfaster going until Mexico´s traditionally late lunch hour.

The most common (and traditional) filling is pork or chicken, in either red or green salsa or mole. Another very traditional variation is to add sugar to the corn mix and fill it with raisins or other dried fruit and make a sweet tamal (tamal de dulce). Instead of corn husks, banana leaves are used in tropical parts of the country such as Oaxaca, Tabasco, Chiapas, and the Yucatán Peninsula. To the south, banana-leaf tamales are also common in the neighboring countries of Central America.

Tamale Factory´s Tamales de elote (Corn Tamales) are a delicious and slightly sweet. Unlike other tamales that are generally filled with meats and vegetables, Tamale Factory´s Elote tamales are made with only a few simple ingredients. The masa consists of tender corn that is roughly ground and combined with sweet corn meal and Masa Harina. The sweet and starchy corn is needed to make these tamales particularly delicious once steamed to perfection. Depending upon the Region, one may find bits of fruits or chilies tucked inside these slightly sweet treasures.

Our Elote Tamales are available in both Food Service and retail packages. Our Elote tamales have found their way onto menus across the country. Try them for breakfast drizzled with 100% pure maple syrup, or served with ice cream or fruit purees for a delicious dessert. Eaten alone they are a great snack anytime of the day.

For something a bit more tropical, try our TAMALES DE PLÁTANO. Our delicious fillings and masa are wrapped in banana leaves and steamed to perfection. Most often found in the coastal regions of Mexico and areas throughout South America.
